Building the skills to be active for a lifetime

Less than a third of Canadian elementary school children achieve the daily recommended physical activity, and two-thirds still need to develop basic physical literacy. Alarming trends, including excessive screen time and increased sedentary behaviours, are leading to a generation of inactive children and sending them on a dangerous path.

The fight for the future well-being of our children is now more present than ever, and the Champions for Life Foundation is on the front line. By focusing on movement behaviour change in children, a timely early intervention will lead to vastly superior health outcomes over their lifespan.

Founded in 2016 by David Arsenault and based in Quebec, the mission of the Champions for Life Foundation is to empower children aged 4 to 8 to move well and build the skills, knowledge, confidence, and motivation to be active for a lifetime. The Foundation offers transformational physical literacy programs, resources, and expert technical assistance to schools and communities, especially those in underserved areas.

In Quebec alone, there are over 800 schools situated in low-socioeconomic communities and children from low-income families are three times less likely to participate in afterschool programs. Power Corporation proudly supports the Foundation to help children in vulnerable neighbourhoods build the skills to grow into healthy adults.
